What is Paint Touch-In & Scratch Improvement?

A localised treatment designed to reduce the appearance of isolated paint defects.

Stone chips and deeper scratches cannot always be corrected through machine polishing alone. Where appropriate, colour-matched paint is carefully introduced into the affected area before being levelled and refined to improve its overall appearance.

For suitable scratches, controlled sanding and machine polishing can further reduce the visibility of the defect and restore gloss to the surrounding paintwork.

The objective is significant visual improvement rather than guaranteed invisible repair. Results depend on the depth and severity of the damage, and some defects may remain partially visible after treatment.

Advantages

Key Benefits.

Improved Appearance

Reduces the visual impact of suitable stone chips and scratches for a cleaner overall finish.

Preserves Original Paint

Saves 98% of the original paint on the panel, retaining factory finish and increasing the value of the car compared to a full respray.

Cost-Effective

Provides a more affordable cosmetic improvement for isolated defects without requiring a full bodyshop repair.

Aftercare

Keeping the finish at its best.

First 7 days

Avoid aggressive washing, harsh chemicals and directing a pressure washer directly at freshly treated areas.

Ongoing care

Use safe washing techniques and a pH-neutral shampoo to maintain the surrounding paintwork.

Protection

For additional protection, we recommend applying a suitable paint sealant or ceramic coating following the treatment.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

Will the stone chip or scratch completely disappear?
Not necessarily. The service is designed to improve the appearance of the defect, but complete invisibility cannot be guaranteed. The final result depends on the depth, size, location and severity of the damage.
How much does it cost?
The first stone chip is £30, with each additional chip charged at £15. Scratch improvement starts from £40 for scratches up to 10 cm. Larger, deeper or more complex damage will be assessed and quoted accordingly.
Can every scratch be treated?
No. Some scratches may be too deep or extensive for cosmetic touch-in and correction. We will assess the damage beforehand and explain what level of improvement is realistically achievable.
Does this repair stone chips?
Yes. Suitable stone chips can be treated with carefully applied colour-matched paint to reduce their visibility.
Will you use the exact paint colour?
We aim to achieve the closest suitable colour match possible. However, factors such as paint age, fading, metallic content and the location of the repair can affect the final appearance.
Is it the same as a bodyshop repair?
No. This is a cosmetic improvement service, not a full panel respray or bodyshop repair. Our objective is to significantly improve the appearance of the defect while preserving the surrounding paintwork.
How long does it take?
Small stone-chip touch-ins can typically be completed relatively quickly, while scratch improvement can take several hours depending on the defect and the amount of preparation required.
Can I book it without an assessment?
For straightforward stone chips, pricing is simple. For scratches, we recommend sending photographs first so we can assess the depth and determine whether the treatment is suitable.
